Music Program: Creative Therapy at Recovery First

Recovery First’s music program is a daily creative therapy offering available to every client, regardless of level of care. After each day’s clinical programming, clients who’ve earned the privilege can take voice, guitar, drum, or keyboard lessons, or work on original songwriting with Gary Wayne, Director of Music & Creative Arts. The program is hands-on: clients practice independently, collaborate with peers, and co-write music together.

The program is designed for clients looking for a healthy outlet to process emotions, manage stress, and build a new identity outside of addiction, skills that carry into life after treatment. Every Friday, the community gathers for the Open Mic Sober Happy Hour, where clients and staff perform together in a supportive, substance-free environment.

The inpatient rehab facility is located just 9 miles away from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and 24 miles away from Miami International Airport (MIA). During the admissions process, compassionate admissions navigators can help you make all travel arrangements, including booking your flight.

You and your partner are welcome to attend treatment at the same time at Recovery First. You will not be able to share a room due to how the facility rooms guests in male or female rooms.

In general, we do accept pregnant women for treatment at Recovery First. However, they have to be medically stable, and the decision is made by our medical staff.

How long inpatient rehab programs last at Recovery First depends on each patient's individual needs. There is no set length of time, and depending on the patient they may stay for a:
What is a typical day like in inpatient/residential addiction treatment?
During inpatient/residential addiction treatment at Recovery First, you reside in apartment-style living quarters and attend all-day treatment programming. Programming includes a combination of evidence-based therapies, alternative therapies, counseling, and psychoeducational sessions practiced both individually and as part of a group. These daily treatment sessions are designed to help you develop the skills required to change damaging thought patterns and behaviors that lead to drug use.
Does inpatient rehab treat co-occurring disorders as well as addiction?
Yes, inpatient rehab at Recovery First treats co-occurring disorders as well as addiction. Some co-occurring disorders treated include:
Is smoking allowed?
Yes, Recovery First and all of American Addiction Centers' facilities provide access to designated smoking areas. You will not be able to buy cigarettes on site, so if you plan on smoking while here you will need to bring your own cigarettes in an unopened pack or carton. If you'd like, your family and friends can also mail you factory-sealed cartons or packs of cigarettes but they must be factory sealed packs or cartons. Staff members at the facilities can answer any of your smoking-related questions.
Do you offer translator services or programs in languages other than English?
Yes, Recovery First can offer translation services when needed. Please note that while it is our goal to work with any person who is seeking help for addiction, some of our facilities are more likely to have translation availability than others. It’s important that you inform us of your translation needs as soon as possible.
What can I bring and can't bring?
You should bring enough clothes to last you through last you through the 5-10 day detox period. After that, in residential treatment, laundry facilities will be available. You may also bring reading material and your phone/computer (though these will be restricted at certain times, such as during detox and the start of residential rehab). You should not bring toiletries, linens or food, as this will all be provided.
Are cell phones allowed?
Yes, Recovery First allows cell phones with some limitations (such as during detox and at the start of residential treatment). View our phone/electronics policy.
Is Recovery First a Christian rehab?
No. While Recovery First's treatment approach includes the 12-Steps (which incorporate the concept of a "higher power"), our program is not specifically rooted in Christianity.
Is Recovery First co-ed?
Yes; however, we house men and women separately.
Can I maintain a job while in treatment?
Recovery First offers various levels of care, some of which involve more time than others. Depending on how much contact you need with work, one or more of our programs may work for you.
Is treatment voluntary and can I leave anytime I want?
Although we urge you to stay until the end of your treatment program, our inpatient facility is 100% voluntary and will never force you to stay. If you do choose to leave early or against medical advice, you may benefit from the counseling services we provide. If you or a loved one is currently in an emergency, contact the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or the National Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration at 1-800-662-4357.
What happens if there is an emergency?
Rest assured: Recovery First is committed to the safety of all of our patients and staff members. This means that in the case of a natural disaster, we have a plan: Recovery First will relocate or release patients who are impacted by the event. We’ll even stop admission to our facility if necessary. If you have a medical emergency, we’ll follow the directions you gave us when we were checking you in for treatment. Recovery First's rehab facility also provides multiple levels of outpatient addiction treatment near Miami and can refer you to another AAC facility for sober living housing. The following levels of addiction treatment are available at our rehab in South Florida:

Outpatient treatment programming takes place at the same Hollywood facility where medical detox takes place. Inpatient/residential treatment occurs nearby where you reside in an apartment-style complex.
What is the cost? How do I pay for it?
The cost of treatment varies. At Recovery First, you can most likely pay for treatment with your private insurance plan, and you can pay out of pocket if that’s an option for you.
