What Is Inpatient Drug & Alcohol Rehab?

room with two made beds

Inpatient rehab is a form of substance use disorder treatment in which the participant resides at the facility for weeks or months at a time.

Because patients live on-site and have access to around-the-clock support and counseling, it is considered the most intensive level of rehab care for drugs and alcohol use disorders, and often the first recommended step after detox.

At Recovery First Treatment Center, residential addiction treatment programs can have varying durations. Depending on the severity of their substance use disorder and individual needs, someone may prefer a short-term detox program, a month-long rehab program, or long-term addiction treatment program.

When you are admitted to our inpatient addiction treatment facility in Hollywood, FL, our medical staff will perform an evaluation to gather important information used to outline a treatment plan. They will ask questions about:

  • What drugs you’ve been using and to what extent.
  • Your physical and mental health condition.
  • What your home life and social situation is like.

Addiction treatment is a highly individualized process that works best when it fits the patient’s unique needs. Once we have the above information, we can help you not only withdraw from substances safely and more comfortably but also address the psychological and social issues surrounding your addiction.

An inpatient program is ideal when treating people with co-occurring disorders or who lack a supportive network and need individual counseling.

Inpatient addiction treatment programs typically begin at our Hollywood, FL, facility with a medical detox program. Depending on the severity of addiction and drugs being used, withdrawal can be extremely unpleasant and sometimes dangerous, and may require medical intervention.

However, despite its necessity in many instances, medical detox alone is largely ineffective in helping someone sustain long-term addiction recovery. The process of getting—and staying—sober is hard work and requires comprehensive treatment.

In addition to our facility where detox and outpatient treatment programs occur, Recovery First Treatment Center operates a residential rehab facility where you’ll live amongst peers, in apartment-style housing, and attend daily treatment sessions to develop the skills required to change damaging thought patterns and behaviors that lead to drug use.

This is accomplished primarily through a combination of evidence-based therapies, alternative therapies, counseling, and psychoeducational sessions practiced both individually and as part of a group. These types of addiction treatment include:

  • Motivational interviewing.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
  • 12-Step facilitation.
  • Music therapy.
  • Mindfulness.

Our Hollywood, FL, rehab facility offers specialized addiction treatment programs for Veterans and first responders as well as a rehab program for healthcare professionals.

Recovery First also works closely with the Pathways 2 Work employment program. Patients that apply to the program will meet with experts that can match them with successful, long-term employment. There is no fee for this service.

Does Health Insurance Cover Inpatient Rehab for Addiction?

Yes. Due to federal mandates, most insurance companies in Florida must provide coverage for addiction treatment, which includes inpatient care if it is deemed medically necessary. Our admissions navigators at Recovery First are available 24/7 at and can help you navigate the insurance process and obtain preauthorization from your insurer as needed.

The most important aspect of using insurance to cover drug and alcohol rehab is finding a facility within your care network. These facilities contract directly with insurance carriers, ensuring costs stay down.

Recovery First is in-network with many insurers that operate in Florida and the Miami area, including:

The coverage provided by health insurance plans can vary based on the specific plan and the type of treatment required.

Generally, patients will incur some out-of-pocket expenses for inpatient treatment. These costs may include an annual deductible, which is the amount you need to pay before your insurance starts covering expenses, and a coinsurance percentage, which means you will pay a portion of the total treatment cost while your insurer pays the rest.

Plans typically have an out-of-pocket limit. This limit ensures that once you have paid a certain amount of money, your insurance will cover all remaining costs for eligible services for the rest of the year.

If you lack insurance, or if treatment is unaffordable even with insurance, there are ways to pay for rehab without health insurance that make costs more manageable, like financing options.
